Hervé Arribart

Hervé Arribart is the Scientific Director of Saint-Gobain Recherche, an international company of French origin with an emphasis on glass manufacture. He took his PhD from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris in the mid-1970s and subsequently researched ionic transport using nuclear magnetic resonance. In the late 1970s he worked with Jean Rouxel's group at the University of Nantes. In 1981 he joined Elf to work in research and development. In 1985 he moved to Saint-Gobain, where at first a large portion of his research was closely related to the practical problems of production. In 1990 he started a laboratory (a joint venture of Saint-Gobain and the CNRS) on the basic science of glass surfaces, using a diverse set of tools and especially the Atomic Force Microscope. In 1999 he moved to the more managerial position of Scientific Director. Hervé is also on the staff of this project.
