Naohiro Soga

Professor Naohiro Soga

Professor Naohiro Soga finished his PhD in 1962 in the department of industrial chemistry at Kyoto University and devoted his whole career to inorganic material science, mostly in glass science. He spent 8 years in the USA in his early career, first as a researcher scientist of American Standard Inc (1962-64), as research associate at Columbia University (1964-1967) and as Assistant Professor in Rice University (1967-70).

Back in Japan, he was appointed Associate Professor at Kyoto University where he stayed as Full Professor from 1979 to 1998. He has been the President of the International Commission on Glass from 1994 to 1997 and President of the Ceramic Society of Japan (1997-98). Since 2001, he has been working as a Trustee of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tokyo.
