Abstract
Variational Principles.--Let us assume that in the free two-dimensional irrotational motion of a compressible inviscid fluid the "density of mechanical energy" p + 1/2 ρ q^2 is an assigned differentiable function f(ρ) of the density ρ of the fluid.
