Abstract
1. Progressive Plane Waves.--When a gas is initially stationary and at uniform temperature and pressure the density p may be regarded as also uniform initially with a value p0 which for convenience may be taken as unity. The velocity of sound at this time will also be independent of position and equal, say, to c0.
