Abstract

The hypophosphite ([H₂POO-]) anion represents a recent addn. to the pantheon of mol. anions utilized in the synthesis of hybrid perovskites.1 However, the synthesis of metal hypophosphite crystals and characterization of the crystallog. structure of these compds. have yet to be thoroughly explored outside of a few examples in the literature. In addn., the prodn. of crystallog. phases as a function of reaction time has not been examd. in these systems. We present here the results of the crystn. of manganese hypophosphites which result in different crystallog. phases depending on the time of recovery from the reaction soln. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction was used to characterize the at. arrangement of these phases at room temp. and a relationship between the symmetry of the crystal structures and the time to recovery from soln. is drawn. The results herein demonstrate increasing dimensionality and d. in these systems with increasing time to crystn. out of soln. These results are presented in the context of similar results from other systems of hybrid and inorg. coordination polymers.
