Abstract

Ferromagnetic thin films have been prepared by vacuum deposition on to a 300°C glass substrate in a pressure of 2 × 10^(-7) torr. Pellets of pure Ni and Fe were melted by induction in crucibles of either alumina, zirconia or beryllia. For films with composition from 60% to 84% Ni (source composition 70, 75, 80 and 85% Ni), no detectable change in the ferromagnetic anisotropy field was observed that was dependent upon the crucible material.
