Abstract
When a volcano on land erupts, or when new crusts is made on the sea floor, the first step, tens of kilometres below, involves partial melting of rock and percolation of melt upwards. So Earth scientists are keen to find out how melt is distributed at the microscopic level and how this might affect the strength of the medium.
