Recent precision experiments [1] have shown that the ft-value for the beta decay of N^(12) is significantly larger (11 ± 1%) than the ft-value for the mirror beta decay of B^(12). Since this difference in ft-value has been used [2] in determining the coupling constants for induced pseudoscalar and induced tensor interactions in beta decay, assuming equality of the mirror matrix elements, it is important to investigate other effects that could cause the matrix elements themselves to be unequal. In this paper, we show that Coulomb effects alone, as manifested in single-particle binding energies, are large enough to account for the experimental difference in ft-values **.
