Welcome to the History of Recent Science. This web site has been developed pursuant to the Dibner Institute/Burndy Library and Sloan Foundation Program for the History of Recent Science and Technology on the Web (the "Program"). The Program web site ("Program Site"), which includes sub-sites dealing with different topical areas, is administered by the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology ("Dibner"). The Program Site has been made available to you, free of charge, for your personal use and interest. Last Update March 27, 2001 One of the objectives of the Program is to provide opportunities for interested parties to participate in the study of the history of science through discussions, questions, and other contributions. You are now entering a part of the Program Site that may allow you to participate more directly in the discussions and sharing of ideas that forms a key part of the Program. You are asked to read the following terms and conditions carefully, and you are asked to agree to these terms and conditions in order to participate in and make contributions to the Program. By entering the Program Site and participating in various projects on the Program Site, and/or by submitting materials to the Program, you are agreeing to become a Contributor to the Program Site and to abide by the following terms and conditions. These terms and conditions will govern current and future participation and contributions made by you to the Program. These terms and conditions may be modified from time to time at the sole discretion of Dibner, and you should check the terms and conditions posted on the Program Site periodically for changes. If at any time you choose not to accept the terms and conditions herein, please do not use the Program Site. Participation in Program Discussions, Interviews and Related Forms of Participation You agree to conduct yourself on the Program Site in a manner that will not interfere with any other Contributor's use and enjoyment of the Program Site or their ability to participate in a respectful and polite discourse about ideas. You will not post or transmit material that is libelous, defamatory, obscene, racist, fraudulent, harmful, threatening, abusive or hateful, that contains nudity or pornography, that violates the copyright or other intellectual property rights of others, or that is in violation of applicable law. You will inform Dibner if you become aware that another Contributor is infringing any intellectual property rights of a third party so that appropriate action can be taken to remove infringing materials from the Program site. LICENSE You hereby grant Dibner a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty free right and license to include your comments, questions, conversations, interviews and other original contributions made by you (referred to collectively as Contributions) on the Program Site, and to publish, copy, distribute, and use your Contributions, in any written or electronic materials, or other media or formats now existing or hereafter devised, including without limitation electronic or hard copy archives of Program materials and publications of collections of Program materials, for purposes relating to the Program. You understand that the Program Site will be accessible throughout the world and that other participants in the Program may discuss and submit comments on your Contributions, and that such discussions and comments may be included in the Program. We understand that you will not be restricted in your use of any Contribution you make for other purposes. Dibner is further authorized to create an abstract of any Contribution you make and to create, use, publish and distribute derivative works of any Contribution (including translation into foreign languages), for the purpose of furthering the goals of the Program. Dibner will include an appropriate citation to you, as the author or creator of any Contribution you make, when using such Contribution. You also give Dibner permission to publish certain biographical information about you, when appropriate, including your name, address, academic affiliation, photograph, and a brief biography, in connection with Program. Dibner will correct any inaccuracies promptly upon your request. In submitting any Contribution, you represent that the Contribution does not infringe upon the copyright or other rights of any third parties. If you wish to recommend materials created by third parties for use in connection with a particular project on the Program Site, you must contact the appropriate person for that project, as indicated on the Contact List located on the Program Site, with your recommendation. PRIVACY POLICY By completing the registration process on the Program Site, you have provided us with certain information about yourself, which may include your name, address, areas of expertise and background. Dibner may include some or all of this information in publicly accessible areas on the Program Site in connection with any contributions that you make, may store this information as part of its database of participants, and may use this information in connection with mailings of related topical materials to you by Dibner, but will not otherwise make any use of your personalized information without your express consent (including your consent as provided for in the Participation and Contribution Agreement on the Program Site). Dibner will remove this information from its database upon your written request. No anonymous submissions or participation will be allowed. The information provided by you will be made available to other registered users of the Program Site. Dibner may, from time to time, collect information in aggregate form for internal use and for use by researchers to improve and evaluate the Program Site.
