Abstract

In these lectures, reaction rate theory and the theory of electron transfer (ET) reactions are outlined. The topics discussed include the relation of the potential energy surfaces to free energy curves for ET reactions, classical ET theory for reactions in solution and at interfaces, quantum corrections, the inverted effect, relation to charge transfer spectra, the cross-relation, adiabatic and nonadiabatic ET reactions, electronic matrix elements, relation to other transfer reactions, predictions of and comparison with experiments, and miscellaneous questions.
