Abstract

The dynamics of the ^1B_1 state of chromyl chloride, CrO_2Cl_2, are investigated via picosecond time-resolved measurements on a jet-cooled sample. Quasi-biexponential time evolution of fluorescence is observed for each of the nine single vibronic levels studied. A rapid, mode-dependent acceleration of the decay rates with excess vibrational energy is reported. The time dependence is described by a kinetic model and the non-radiative decay channels which may be responsible for the observed behavior are discussed.
