Abstract

Partially substituted derivatives of polyacetylene are synthesized via the ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of cyclooctatetraene (COT) and its derivatives. Certain poly-COT derivatives afford soluble, highly conjugated poly acetylenes. These materials exhibit large third-order optical nonlinearities and low scattering losses.
