Abstract

After giving a short sketch of the status of the field we treat two models of runaway in some detail. One is a Fokker-Planck equation, the other a kinetic equation with compact kernel. Both are 1-d models; both deal with the marginal case of (1v) relaxation of diffusion coefficient or reaction-rate. We also give a description - in 1-d - of the Gaussian shape of the runaway pulse following an initial burst.
