Abstract

In the past 25 years, we have become more ambitious. We would like to solve nonspherical problems, in two and even three spatial dimensions. A new feature of nonspherical gravitational collapse is the production of gravitational waves. With the advent of large-scale gravitational wave detectors now likely, one of our goals is to be able to calculate reliably the spectrum of gravitational radiation from various astrophysical sources. How close are we to achieving this goal? What is the status of numerical calculations of black hole formation?
