Abstract

Long-term XCO_2 retrievals, which are obtained by the three measurements including SCIAMACHY, GOSAT and OCO-2, are publicly available from 2003 to date. These XCO_2 data can help us better understanding the underlying processes of uptake and release of CO_2 in biosphere and anthropogenic emissions at global scales via probing into the characteristics of the spatio-temporal variations of XCO_2 . We investigated the inconsistency of the spatio-temporal variations of XCO_2 in these three measurements by combining with NDVI data. We apply a global land mapping XCO_2 datasets generated by data-driven spatiotemporal geostatistics method to the correlation analysis with NDVI. As a result, XCO_2 demonstrate smooth variations in time without jumping in the time node between the three measurements. They demonstrate similar patterns of correlation coefficients with NDVI which could indicate the process of CO_2 interchange in biosphere-atmosphere.

We acknowledge the ACOS-GOSAT v3.5 data were produced by the ACOS/OCO-2 project at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, and obtained from the ACOS/OCO-2 data archive maintained at the NASA Goddard Earth Science Data and Information Services Center; the SCIAMACHY-XCO_2 BESD v02.01.01 data have been obtained from ESA (Europe Space Agency: http://www.esa-ghg-cci.org/). NIES v02.21 only contains the raw XCO_2 retrieval values, which has been downloaded from https://data.gosat.nies.go.jp/. We also acknowledge the GOSAT Project for acquiring the spectra; MODIS NDVI products MOD09 (MYD13C2, MOD11C3) were download from USGS websites (http://e4ftl01.cr.usgs.gov).
