Abstract
The Schur-Weyl duality provides a systematic approach to the study of representations of the classical groups. In this contribution we use the Schur-Weyl duality to analyze the natural representations of the symmetric group S_n arising from the irreducible GL(n, C) and SL(n, C)-modules. This paper is dedicated to A. A. Kirillov on the occasion of his 2^6-th birthday.
