Warren, carried on most of his work at the Balch Graduate School of the Geological Sciences, California Institute of Technology, under the auspices of the Commonwealth Fund Foundation of New York. The studies of the junior author, Rodger W. Loofbourow, were conducted with the assistance of the Commonwealth Fund at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. All the analytical work except where otherwise noted was done by the junior author in the laboratories of the Utah Engineering Experiment Station at the University of Utah, as was also the microchemical identification of the minerals in polished sections. The authors wish to express their thanks to the Silver King Coalition Mining Company for its ready cooperation in the securing of the necessary samples. They wish also to thank Dr. F. L. Ransome and Mr. R. Engel of the California Institute of Technology, Dr. D. A. Lyon of the Utah Engineering Experiment Station, and Mr. R. E. Head, Microscopist of the U. S. Bureau of Mines for their valuable help, advice, and criticism. The willing cooperation of all members of the staffs of the above institutions did much to facilitate our work.
