The Writings of Antoine Parent. Volume 1: Mathematics
Abstract
Antoine Parent was a French engineer and mathematician who published about 190 papers and 5 books between 1699 and 1716, the year of his death. He wrote on a wide variety of subjects, but the majority fall into the categories of mechanics and mathematics. In general, for various reasons, Parent's work is not well known today even though much of it seems quite significant. This Volume 1 of Parent's writings covers mathematics in 22 Chapters, and many of the topics demonstrate Parent's facility with geometry and the newly invented calculus. A summary of the highlights is given at the end.
