Abstract
This paper is a study of proverbs of Egypt and North Africa from the anthropological, linguistic and social points of view. From these proverbs one can define and give context to such concepts as "chance," "fate," generosity," and "patience," shedding light on the values and principles of the societies in question. "Arab proverbs" was first presented at a conference of the African Literature Association held at Claremont, early in April 1981.
