Influx of low D/H meteoric water into the lower plates of metamorphic core complexes, southeastern British Columbia

Abstract

It is now well established that the upper plates of metamorphic core complexes in British Columbia underwent intense meteoric-hydrothermal alteration at high water-rock ratios (W/R) in the brittle fracturing regime during Eocene extension (Magaritz and Taylor, 1986, Nesbitt and Muehlenbachs, 1989, Beaudoin et al., 1991). Also, quartz-feldspar ^(18)O/^(16)O disequilibrium in the basement Monashee complex and Monashee decollement imbricate thrust zone (MD) indicates that these meteoric-hydrothermal fluids at 1east locally affected the lower plates (Holk and Taylor, 1997).
