Femtosecond real-time dynamics of photofragment-trapping resonances on dissociative potential energy surfaces

Abstract

The real-time dynamics of wave packet resonance (due to photofragment trapping) in the reaction of NaI is reported using femtosecond transition-state spectroscopy (FTS). The observed oscillation frequency and delay give the effective vibrational frequency of the trapping well and the probability of leaving the well, respectively. The energy dependence of the wave packet oscillation provides the shape of the quasi-bound potential well in NaI.
