The Mechanism of the Photoconversion of Santonin

Abstract

The photochemistry of santonin has an illustrious history which has dealt, in the main, with the isolation, characterization, and interrelation of the manifold products formed on exposure of santonin to light in various media. The established course of the reaction in certain media is from santonin (I) to lumisantonin (II) and thence to photosantonic acid (IV).
