Electrocatalytic CO_2 reduction in water using Re complex catalyst with polymer ion gels electrode
Abstract
It is well known that metal complex catalysts such as [Re(bpy)(CO)_3Cl] (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have a good selectivity for CO_2 redn. in an org. solvent. However, almost metal complex catalysts for the CO_2 redn. activity are suppressed by adding water. Therefore, they can hardly use water as an electron donor. In this presentation, we will talk about electrocatalytic CO_2 redn. in water using [Re(bpy)(CO)_3Cl] with polymer ion gels electrode. Main product was CO, faradaic efficiency was over 90 % even in an aq. soln. Furthermore, hydrogen prodn. was suppressed by the polymer ion gels support. The polymer ion gels electrode can combine with water oxidn. catalyst. We have successfully achieved that selective CO_2 redn. with water oxidn. using [Re(bpy)(CO)_3Cl] with the polymer ion gels support. The polymer ion gels electrode can be also applied to the other metal complex catalysts.
