Hedgehogs in the clinic

Abstract

[Introductory Paragraph] The importance of cell-cell interactions in regulating vertebrate development has been understood for many years. However, it is only relatively recently that the principal players have been identified. Prominent among these is the hedgehog (HH) family of signaling peptides first identified in pioneering genetic screens in the fruit fly, Drosophila.
