Chemical Stratification of the Mantle
- Creators
- Anderson, Don L.
Abstract
Differentiation of the mantle results in a thick layer of basalt which cannot sink below about 670 km even after it converts to eclogite and garnetite. The mantle is therefore chemically stratified. The upper mantle stratification is possibly garnet peridotite overlying eclogite.
