On the 1-cohomology of the general and special linear groups

Abstract

In this paper we discuss the functional equation f(ab) = f(a) + a(f(b)) which arises in connection with the l-cohomology of the general linear group over a field F acting as inner automorphisms on the full matrix algebra of the same degree.
