Ultra-high-Q small mode volume toroid microcavities on a chip

Abstract

We present microfabrication of ultra-high-Q microcavities on a chip. These toroidal microcavities possess Q-factors in excess of 400 million and furthermore achieve a Q-factor to mode volume ratio of more than 10^6 (n/λ)^3.
