Polymeric Ultraviolet Absorbers

Abstract
Compounds which absorb ultraviolet light and dissipate the absorbed energy in a non-degradative form have been used for many years as protective agents. In particular, ultraviolet absorbers have been employed as stabilizers in synthetic polymers and as "sunscreens" for the prevention of light-induced damage to the skin. The requirements of these two applications are really quite similar, and it is perhaps not surprising that several classes of compounds are widely used both as stabilizers and as sunscreens.
