Saving face: rescuing a craniofacial birth defect

Craniofacial abnormalities comprise approximately one-third of all birth defects and often require multiple rounds of surgery to repair the malformations. To date, prevention has not been possible. Greater understanding of the developmental origin of craniofacial defects promises to provide insights into potential preventative measures.
