Abstract
New results concerning the coherence time and duration of pulses generated by passively and synchronously mode-locked cw dye lasers are presented. The autocorrelation traces, obtained at different cavity settings, are successfully analyzed with the "noise-burst" model which takes into account the pulse substructure. Our data show that the pulse shape changes when changing the cavity length of the synchronously mode-locked laser, and that pulses from our passively mode-locked laser are substructured. Finally, we present "practical" graphs for the effect of the cavity length on energy, power, coherence time and pulse duration.
